Intel — Volumetric Capture

Systems Engineer · Jan 2016 – Mar 2020 · Live sports and studio events

A large volumetric capture system for live sports and studio events, run under live-production pressure. Sports rigs put about 30 cameras around the play space, each on its own server, routed over fiber through patch panels to the control room; frames were processed to voxels from calibration frames and rebuilt in 3D in Maya for broadcast replay.

The studio stage in Manhattan Beach ran the same pipeline at a larger scale: a 100+ 8K camera stage, the largest volumetric stage of its time, used for productions including a Paramount volumetric performance and a VR music video.

Alongside operating the systems, the work included Python reporting tools (failed-clip counts, nightly production issues), file naming automation, and training new system engineers on operation, tools, and troubleshooting.
